Guard against TEST PURCHASE FAILURE

With increased activity from The Authorities in this area, you will need to be seen to be 'Pro-Active' in exercising 'Due Diligence'. Herron House offers a 'credible' and cost effective Training Programme with an 'On-Going  Back- Up' option that should satisfy 'The Powers That Be' that you are 'going the extra mile' in order to comply with The Licensing Act and Local Licensing Policy.

Personal Licence Application - CRB Check (click here)

Although Personal Licence Application Forms are available on the course, you can't actually apply for your Licence until you receive your Certificate; but if 'time is of the essence', it may be a good idea to get the ball rolling early with regard to your CRB Check. We have always recommended 'Disclosure Scotland 'as being the  quickest route. These are accepted by Licensing Authorities for up to  a Calendar Month after issue; so applying for it approx.1 week before your course would almost certainly ensure the fastest 'Turnaround Time' from Certification to your Personal Licence being granted.  HOWEVER,IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO SEE A COLLECTION OF THE 'BUREAUCRATIC BUMPH' THAT MAY BE OF ASSISTANCE TO SOME APPLICANTS, THEN PLEASE 'CLICK ON THE LINK'....YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED !!!

Post 'Smoking Ban' Training Initiative Raises Standards and Boost Profits

Mitchell’s of Lancaster have just completed a new Training Initiative intended to develop the next generation of Professional Pub Operator. Managers, Assistant Managers, Trainee Managers, Tenant Licensees and selected support staff have undergone a Day Release Programme over a 5 week period. The 'Pilot Course' held at The Greaves Hotel,Lancaster, was run by North West National Training Award Winner Alan Herron, Director of Lancaster based Herron House Licensed Retail Training. The candidates studied for the BIIAB Level 2 Introduction to Licensed Retail Operations Certificate – this involved working their way through 13 subject areas relevant to the successful operation of a Licensed Hospitality Business, be it a pub, bar, hotel or club. The course also included Business Planning and Personal Development; and those who already possess the National Certificate for Personal Licence Holders, will also be awarded the Level 2 National Certificate in Licensed Retailing Professional Qualification. Mitchell’s Joint Managing Director, Jonathan Barker said, “We are committed to, and improving the quality of, our pub operations and this training initiative is most definitely a step in the right direction for us. Delegates are being drawn from our estate, which includes pubs in Lancaster, Morecambe and the surrounding area. We are delighted to be able to develop our existing staff, thereby building their skills so as to have a beneficial effect on their contribution to the success of our pubs”. Course Director Alan Herron said, “We decided to deliver the programme on a Day Release, 5 week basis as it maximises the Learning Experience for each person taking part. Another reason for taking the 5 day option is that we are able to introduce topics outside of the main syllabus, but are still very important in terms of Employee/Employer Benefit: such as Business Planning, Personal Development and Conflict Management. Also, some of the subject areas covered are enhanced to prepare the candidates for progression to the BIIAB Level 3 Advanced Qualifications in Licensed Hospitality following successful completion of the Level 2 qualification; they must also demonstrate that their level 2 training has resulted in a Specific and Measurable Contribution to the success of their businesses”. “I am passionate about making Training Effective as our Industry is now more competitive and challenging than at any time in its history, therefore, if there’s little or no commercial benefit from the training, then don’t do it! I’ve seen trainers deliver courses similar to this in 3 consecutive days which is too much, too quick;the student may well get a Certificate but very little 'Measurable Benefit'from the training itself- except for maybe 'a large bundle of notes and a sore head!” A further reason why the Level 2 qualification was chosen is that each unit contains ‘work-based activities’ which, as the name implies, involves the candidate returning to their workplace to complete these activities: eg bar set-up procedure, receipt of goods, beer cellar inspection, financial control exercises, event planning etc – thus reinforcing the benefits of the 'day release' approach and allowing the candidates time to apply their newly acquired knowledge in their management and supervisory roles. Alan went on to say, “I am very excited about this training initiative because, unlike many of the National Pub Companies - where there is little scope for self-expression - Mitchell’s have always ‘bucked the trend’of'branding' and have maintained the individuality of each and every one of their Pubs and Hotels, so the candidates from this course will have the maximum opportunity to show the company, their colleagues and most important of all, their customers, what they can do”. The Course -in its present format-is now available locally ;details are on the 'Courses Page'of this Website.
